About the Course
This is a distance learning course offered by correspondence. There are 17 written assignments which cover the required knowledge base for Texas assisted living managers.
The assignments cover: management, human resources, resident care, finances, ethics, the Texas assisted living facility requirements, Texas rules for Advance Directives, Consent to Medical Treatment and Residents Bill of Rights.
One or two pages will be sufficient to answer most assignments. The assignments can be mailed, emailed or faxed to us.
When you finish these materials you will have a broad knowledge of and be well prepared for managing an assisted living facility and the relevant Texas rules.

- The course consists of two sets of materials: (1) all the Texas regulations which you are required to know and function under, and (2) the knowledge base for assisted living administrators established by the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Long Term Care Administrators: the knowledge areas of management, human resources, finance, environment and resident care. When you finish this course you are fully prepared to take the Nation Exam in Assisted Living Administration, if you choose to. The content of this course LTCE 124 has also been approved by the National Continuing Education Review Services which is an approving body established by the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Long Term Care Administrators.

Course Instructor's Background
Dr. Allen is a certified nursing home administrator with nearly two decades of experience in the field of long term care administration education. He Professor of Health Policy and Administration, Emeritus, Department of Health Policy and Administration, School of Public Health, University of Texas at Chapel Hill where he teaches the contents of the NAB Domains of Practice in a college credit version. He has taught health management theory and practice in the Department of Health Policy and Administration since 1968. Dr. Allen has devoted the last twenty years to developing teaching materials for persons seeking to be capable long-term care administrators. He is the author of more than half a dozen books in the long term care administration field including the textbooks for this course. His department has been consistently cited as one of the top two or three departments of health care administration in the nation.
