Pennsylvania Nursing Home Education Requirements:
120 hour approved program of study, practical experience in administration of a nursing home or related health facility and supervised training of 1,000 hours. Requirements vary with amount of education and experience.

Pennsylvania Personal Care Homes: Administrator Overview
Must complete an orientation program approved and administered by the Department, a 100-hour standardized Department-approved administrator training course and a Department-approved competency-based training test with a passing score. Administrators must complete 24 hours of annual training relating to their job duties.
- The administrator shall have one of the following qualifications
- A license as a registered nurse from the Department of State
- An associate's degree or 60 credit hours from as accredited college or university
- A license as a licensed practical nurse from the Department of State and 1 year of work experience in a related field
- A license as a nursing home administrator from the Department of State
- For a home serving 8 or fewer residents, a general education development diploma or high school diploma and 2 years direct care or administrative experience in the human services field
- The administrator shall be 21 years of age or older.

Slippery Rock University offers a BS in Health Science degree with a concentration available in long-term care administration. Once admitted to the Health Services Administration program students interested in LTCA must meet all of the HSA requirements. In addition, they must also take Long-Term Care Administration I and II complete a required nine-month internship at selected sites. Fulfilling these requirements entitles the student to be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Licensure Examination for Nursing Home Administrators.

The University of Scranton offers a BS in Health Administration with a concentration in long-term care administration. A total of 134 credits are required for this concentration. The long-term care administration curriculum is structured so that the 120 hours of long- term care education content specified by the Pennsylvania licensing board is covered and a significant experiential component is completed during which the National Board's Domains of Practice are also covered.
