Maryland Nursing Home Education Requirements:
BA degree or masters in health care administration and AIT or one year of full time nursing home administration in a nursing home; or BA or masters degree in a field other than nursing home administration and AIT of one year of full time nursing home administration in a nursing home, and 100 hour course of study for NHA (Core of Knowledge).

The programs in gerontology include long term care courses, but no formal certification or program in long term care as such. Gerontology programs include an undergraduate gerontology minor and a gerontology certificate with two options: one for those pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a major in an area other than gerontology and one for those not pursuing a higher education degree.
