Florida Assisted Living: Administrator Overview
Be 21 and complete a core training program including 24 contact hours within 3 months of employment. 12 hours of continuing education every two years. Extended Congregate Care Facility administrators must have 2 years of experience in social work, management, recreation or counseling and do 6 hours of continuing education each year.

The core curriculum has been approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations and the State Board of Nursing Home Administrators. Program
The University of North Florida's Department of Health Science has one undergraduate and two graduate programs that offer curriculum in Long-Term Care Administration. Graduates from these programs who have successfully completed a state mandated internship as part of their program of study are eligible to sit for the Florida Long-Term Care Administrator's Examination
Bachelor of Science in Health(BSH)
Undergraduate students enrolled in the Health Administration Program who elect to complete required long-term care courses and a 650-hour internship under the direction of a qualified administrative preceptor may apply for admission to the Florida Long-Term Care Administrator's Examination. www.unf.edu/coh/bshadm.htm
Master of Science in Health, Geriatric Management Program
The Geriatric Management Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals desiring to work in the area of health care for the aging population. Students complete 39 hours of coursework in management, finance, health law, aging theory and a field experience or an internship. Students completing the 500-hour state prescribed long-term care internship are eligible to take the state licensing exam. www.unf.edu/coh/mshgera

The Department of Health Science also offers a Master in Health Care Administration (M.H.A.) degree Examinationwhich includes elective course work in long term care and the option to complete the state mandated 500 hour graduate internship in a long term care facility. www.unf.edu/coh/mha
