Recently,  Dr. Allen took early retirement from the Department of Health Policy and Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in order to have full time to devote to the long term care administration field.

While teaching, he taught, in addition to long term care administration, courses in medical ethics and the U.S. health system.

Established Long Term Care Education...
In 1999 he established Long Term Care Education as a vehicle for offering training in long term care administration.

Dr. Allen taught health policy and administration in the Department of Health Policy and Administration, School of Public Health, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1969 - 2006.

Extensive Writing and Research...
He is the author of numerous texts and books in the field of long term care administration, most of which are now in their third or fourth edition. His texts are used by most college teaching programs in long term care administration throughout the United States.

Licensed and Certified NHA...
Dr. Allen is a licensed nursing home administrator in North Carolina and has been designated a Certified Nursing Home Administrator by the American College of Health Care Administrators. He devotes his full time to education, research and training in the field of long term care administration.

Thirty-one years experience teaching health management at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Department of Health Policy and Administration, School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Developed Administrator-in-Training (AIT) course for the North Carolina State Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (required of all AIT's in North Carolina since 1984). Developed and currently teaches Long Term Care Administration courses through www.longtermcareeducation.com. Teaches NHA licensure course for several states. 

Primary professional and research interest:

Professional education of long term care administrators. Primary emphasis on the education of administrators for nursing, CCRC and assisted living facilities.
